Legislative Conference

NYSBA’s Legislative Conference: Making a Difference

On March 18, 2025, in Albany, NYSBA held its annual Lobbying and Legislative Conference, which proved to be a tremendous success. The Legislative Reception was among the most well-attended in recent memory, drawing over 100 attendees, including more than 30 state legislators and eleven of NYSBA’s fourteen local associations represented. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for our members to engage with lawmakers in a more relaxed setting, fostering meaningful discussions on the critical issues facing our industry.

During the conference, dedicated NYSBA members took to the State Capitol, attending over 60 meetings with legislators.

These discussions centered on key industry concerns, including:

  • Electrification mandates and their impact on housing costs and production

  • Expanded prevailing wage proposals and their burden on multi-family development

  • New wetlands mapping and permitting restrictions that threaten property rights, increase delays in permitting, reduce available land to build on in sewer districts, and increase the cost of home construction

  • Fire Sprinkler Mandates and the additional cost of building housing

  • The broader implications all of these policies have on New York’s housing affordability and supply crisis

We sincerely thank all attendees for their participation and commitment to advocating for the home-building industry. A special thank you to our event sponsors, whose generous support made this conference possible.

Together, we will continue to fight for policies that support housing affordability and homeownership in New York State!
