The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) administers New York Energy $martSM programs which are designed to lower electricity costs by encouraging energy efficiency as the state’s electric utilities move to competition. The programs are available to all electric distribution customers (residential, commercial, institutional and industrial) in the New York Energy $martSM territory, which consists of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, New York State Electric & Gas Corporation, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., and Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation.

NYSERDA’s Residential Energy Affordability Program (REAP) falls under the umbrella of the New York Energy $martSM program. REAP offers programs to help reduce the energy costs to homeowners, multifamily building owners, and low-income residents, as well as offer incentives to homebuilders and contractors in the New York Energy $martSM territory.

NYSERDA administers the New York ENERGY STAR® Labeled Homes Program. This market-based program seeks to transform the way energy efficiency services are delivered to the 1-4 family new construction market in New York State.

New York ENERGY STAR® Labeled Homes are nationally recognized for using 30 percent less energy than conventional new homes. They are built to higher standards for energy efficiency, incorporating proven energy-saving technologies, advanced building practices and traditional craftsmanship.

New York ENERGY STAR® Labeled Homes offer their owners a number of benefits, including:

For more information on this and other New York Energy $martSM programs, call (877) NY-SMART or visit www.GetEnergySmart.org.

New York’s ENERGY STAR® program encourages consumers to look for the ENERGY STAR® symbol when purchasing products, appliances and homes. ENERGY STAR®, the national symbol for energy efficiency was established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy to help consumers easily identify the most energy-efficient products and appliances.

All New York Energy $martSM programs are funded by a System Benefits Charge (SBC) paid by electric distribution customers of participating utilities. NYSERDA, a public benefit corporation established by law in 1975, administers SBC funds and programs under an agreement with the New York State Public Service Commission.
